VILLE STABIANE E MUSEO ARCHEOLOGICO DI STABIA LIBERO D’ORSI – Tour privato
INFO
Some ancient Stabiae residential villas are built in a panoramic area. Large living quarters, nymphaeums, arcades and spa facilities still remain. The city was destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD together with Pompeii, Herculaneum and Oplontis. It was excavated during the Bourbon period and there are currently three villas open: Villa San Marco, which covers an area of 11,000 square meters; Villa Arianna, which takes its name from the large fresco with a mythological subject one of its triclinium and the villa called "Second Complex", separated from the previous one by a small road. The recently opened Archaeological Museum is housed in the rooms of the Royal Palace of Quisisana, a splendid residence from the Bourbon period that houses finds related to the territory.
