The Carthusian complex was built in the fourteenth century and was enriched in the following centuries to become a precious casket that holds treasures from various eras. The visit of the church and the annexed rooms - with works by Ribera, Reni, Lanfranco, Giordano -, the Cloisters, the Refectory, the Spezieria and the Quarto del Priore, allows an overview of the maximum achievements of the arts in Naples from the end of the 16th to 18th century. In the spaces of the ancient kitchens of the friars, the collection of presepi and ancient statues is exhibited. The tour is completed by two period carriages and the naval section, with the parade boats of King Charles of Bourbon and King Umberto of Savoy. The visit continues with the adjacent bulk of Castel Sant’Elmo, also built in medieval times and transformed into a modern military fortress in the 16th century. Built on top of a hill, thanks to its privileged position, it offers a view that embraces the entire Gulf of Naples.

The guided tour takes place in two stages: first the Certosa, with the church and adjacent rooms, the Cloisters, the Refectory, the Crib Section, the Prior's Quarto, the carriages and the Naval Section; then Castel Sant’Elmo.
